Please find below the answers to your questions.
- how many dogs are picked up and sent to the shelter per year
In 2022, 2 dogs were picked up. In 2023, 1 dog was picked up.
- how many are returned directly to their guardians
We do not keep a list of this. The general experience is that they are returned within a few hours.
- how long is their stay at the shelter
± 6 hours
- what is their sanitary protocol
Dogs are walked every 4 hours. Kennel cleaned after use.
- does municipal patrol have a universal microchip reader
Yes
- who is the contractor once the dog has not been claimed, what are their credentials
If a dog went unclaimed, we would use a local rescue organization.
- Will the city create a social media platform to post animals who have been found?
No, this has not been necessary.
- Will Beaconsfield create an Animal Services page regarding all animals? Information on the website is scattered and mostly about dogs. Please post the bylaws and information about contact for all animals on one Animal Services page.
Your comment will be considered for a future website structure.
- I believe a more structured system to return to the owner their pet would be money well spent i.e. ALL west island boroughs and cities should have a system that the moment a cat or dog is lost to post on the electronic billboards, with the contact number of the municipal patrol, dedicated page on their website and a facebook page administered by a dedicated municipal team.
You can provide your suggestion to the Agglomeration or to the individual cities. We do not have the need in Beaconsfield.
The Agglomeration Council does not deal with animals. They deal with parks, sewers, water, police, and roads. Animals are at the local municipal level.
The notion that dogs are always returned within hours is not always true. Elsa, the husky who was presumably at 303 A last year, was allegedly there for 3 days, then sent to SPCA West for adoption. I only found out about this on a Facebook group for West Island pets.
